Brighton Jetty

On Thursday, 16. August 2001 the forecasted change came through and the wind turned from northwest to southwest. There were decent-size stormies in the Gulf, so I drove down to the Brighton Jetty with my camera, to my delight finding about twenty-five determined short- and boogieboarders out there, battling the wild sees. The water was a muddy colour due to the upwelling of the sand, the wind was howling and the setting sun was lurking through the thick grey clouds, backlighting and emphasising the moody scene.
The surfers were running along the jetty in their eagerness to get out there, arms clamped around their boards to avoid the wind ripping it out of their hands, threatening to send everything flying, then jumping off the jetty into the swirling break.
After I'd taken the photos, the sky got ominously dark and the sun disappeared altogether.

No cover-ups in perfect, glassy barrels, just fun-surf in different conditions. That's why I like these photos.
